Portuguese Group Analytic Society Training Course PDF Print E-mail
The training demanded of a group analyst is as follows: 
  1. Didactic Group Analysis
    This should be done on the basis of three weekly sessions, in a mixed group, with a Tutor-Group Analyst, for a period of at least six years.
  2. Training Course on Group Analytic Theory and Technique
    This consists of supervised study groups plus clinical seminars organised by the Society. Course duration of four academic years. 
  3. Group Analytic Practice
    The candidate may conduct group analysis groups, group analytic psychotherapy groups (a single weekly session) and analytic orientated individual psychotherapy as from the third year of the course. 
  4. Supervision
    This should be done by someone recognised by the Portuguese Group Analytic Society (Full-Member- Tutor). 

 

This course is designed exclusively for Candidate-Members in training.

1st Year

On the first year we look into a definition of Group Analysis, distinguishing it from Group Analytical Psychotherapy, by studying  the main authors related with such technique.

2nd Year

 On the second year, works from various authors relevant to the Group Analytical Theory are studied. The basic concepts of group analysis are introduced.

3rd Year

 On the third year, several pathologies experienced both by children and adults are studied. The Clinical seminars resume with displays of several study cases. The “Group Analytical healing process“ is defined and contact with research about group analysis takes place.

4th Year

On the fourth year, the Group Analytical Technique Theory is studied to the detail. The presentations taking place in Clinical seminars are the outcome of the trainee’s group analysis sessions. Notions on how to apply the Group Analytical Technique are disclosed under the form of Group Analytical Psychotherapy of various contexts.
